English Vocabulary With Synonyms

1.    Ameliorate (सुधारना )
Meaning:  If someone or something ameliorates a situation, they make it better or easier in some way. (Formal)
Synonyms: Make better, Improve, Amend

2.    Aphorism  (वचन , सूक्ति)
Meaning: An aphorism is a short witty sentence which expresses a general truth or comment. ( Formal)

Synonyms: Maxim Proverb, Motto

3.    Burlesque (कारटून)
Meaning: A burlesque is a performance or a piece of writing that makes fun of something by copying it in an exaggerated way. You can also use burlesque to refer to a situation in real life that is like this.
Example: The book read like a black comic burlesque

Synonyms: Imitate, Tease, Satirize, Jeer.

4.    Bedlam (हंगामा, अव्यवस्था)
Meaning: Bedlam means a great deal of noise and disorder. People often say it was bedlam’ to mean’ There was bedlam’.
Example : The crowd went absolutely mad. It was bedlam.

Synonyms: Clamor, Confusion

5.    Capitulate (शर्तों को मान लेना, हथियार डाल देना)
Meaning: If you capitulate, you stop resisting and do what someone else wants you to do.
Example: In less than two hours Cohen capitulated to virtually every demand.

Synonyms: surrender, yield, submit, give in

6.    Desultory (अनियमित, असंगत)
Meaning: Something that is desultory is done in an unplanned and disorganized way, and without enthusiasm.
Example : The constables made a desultory attempt to keep them away from the barn.

Synonyms: Discontinuous, Irregular, Rambling

7.    Debacle (पराजय)
Meaning:  debacle is an event or attempt that is a complete failure.
Example: After the debacle of the war the world was never the same again.

Synonyms: disaster, calamity, fiasco, shambles

8.    Diffident (संकोची, शर्मीला)
Meaning: Someone who is diffident is rather shy and does not enjoy talking about themselves or being notices by other people.
Example : Helen was diffident and reserved.

Synonyms: Modest, Bashful, shy

9.    Entice (फुसलाना, बहकाना)
Meaning:  To entice someone to go somewhere or to do something means to try to persuade them to go to that place or to do that thing.
Example : Retailers have tried almost everything to entice shoppers through their doors.

Synonyms: Lure, Persuade, Allure

10.  Exacerbate (ख़राब करना)
Meaning: If something exacerbates a problem or bad situation, it makes it worse.
Example : Longstanding poverty has been exacerbates by racial divisions.

Synonyms: Magnify
